About six years ago, eventual co-founders Kathy King Tedeschi and Chris Teel Hall went for a walk. The topic turned to how Chris was helping a friend in end stage cancer find a hospice home and had to go all the way to Connecticut to find one – there was nothing closer to home, closer to family, closer to friends and loved ones. Crazy. Not acceptable. There should me something in our community. We should do something. Let’s do something…

The ladies approached Kathy’s husband, Ralph, for his thoughts, feedback and ultimately his support. The three incorporated Campus of Caring as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2005 and began their research to figure out what makes a good, quality hospice home. They spoke to community groups to educate people on why there is such a need for a hospice home on the South Shore and gained support, momentum and volunteers willing to help. Throughout this process, Norwell VNA & Hospice was identified as the perfect partner and eventual operator of this dream based on that group’s extensive knowledge of hospice and hospice care. Since its inception, Campus of Caring has evolved into a group lead by a five-person Executive Committee and a 12 person Board of Directors. Additionally, there are many, many volunteers that make things happen for the group, including raising funds and awareness for this great cause.

The search continues for the perfect location to build a hospice home. The focus has been narrowed to the Norwell/Hanover area and a few different locations are still under review. The spot must be a tranquil setting, easily accessible from Route 3 and able to accommodate 12 bedrooms equipped to meet federal, state and local regulations. Our hope is to secure the property within the next few months and begin making this dream a reality. Stay tuned…

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
